Houston vs Norfolk State 11/29/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Norfolk State Spartans and the Houston Cougars meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Hofheinz Pavilion. Norfolk State is sitting at 5-2 overall this year. The Spartans beat St. Mary’s (MD) in their last game. As for Houston, they’re 6-0 on the season and fresh off a win versus Kent State. Norfolk State won their first two games over VA Lynchburg and Cairn. The Spartans followed with losses in tough matchups versus Baylor and UCLA, then bounced back with wins over Monmouth and Alabama A&M. 

In last Tuesday’s matchup versus St. Mary’s (MD), the Spartans drilled the opposition 53-10 in the first half. Norfolk State scored 38 more points in a 91-41 blowout. Dana Tate, Kris Bankston and Daryl Anderson each scored 15 points. 

Over on the Houston side, it’s been smooth sailing so far despite a close call or two. The Cougars took out Northern Colorado, Saint Joseph’s, Oral Roberts, Texas Southern and Oregon over their first five games. 

Houston played their closest game of the year versus Kent State on Saturday. The Cougars had a slim 24-22 lead by halftime and were able to power out the 49-44 win. Marcus Sasser led the team on 19 points with five boards. 

PICK: I’m probably staying with Houston here but not touching it. I’d like to take a stab on Norfolk State but I don’t think they’ve got the legs to cover. The Spartans lost pretty badly in their two matchups versus ranked opponents, 87-70 against Baylor and 86-56 versus UCLA. 

Houston should dominate this matchup from front to back. That said, the Cougars are coming off a shaky game versus Kent State, shooting just 32 percent from the field and 2-of-17 (11.8 percent) from 3-point range. Still, I think Houston can overpower the Spartans for a cover here.
