LIU vs UMass-Lowell 12/5/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The UMass Lowell River Hawks and the Long Island University Sharks meet Monday in college basketball action from Steinberg Welness Center. UMass Lowell is 8-1 overall and fresh off a win over Sacred Heart. As for LIU, they’re sitting at 1-6 so far. The Sharks lost to Towson in their last game. UMass Lowell beat Fisher and Columbia to kick off the season, then took a 73-65 loss to Rutgers. It’s been wins over Sacred Heart, Emerson, Brown, Stonehill, Merrimack and Sacred Heart again since then. 

In Saturday’s game versus Sacred Heart, the River Hawks took a 27-17 lead into halftime. UMass Lowell scored 43 more points from there in a 70-59 win. Both Everette Hammond and Cam Morris notched 18 points and 11 rebounds apiece. 

Over on the LIU side, they lost to Utah in their opener then took out Mount St. Vincent in a blowout. The Sharks have lost to Marquette, South Dakota, Northern Illinois, St. John’s and Towson since then. 

On Friday versus Towson, the Sharks were up 36-34 going into the second half. Long Island University was outscored 40-28 from there and lost 74-64. Quin Burns and Marko Maletic each scored 18 points to lead the team.

PICK: I’ll stay with UMass Lowell here. The line’s probably a bit too thick to mess with, though. The River Hawks are on a nice run since their lone loss to Rutgers. This year UMass Lowell has been scoring well; they’ve hit 70 or more points in all eight of their victories (65 in the Rutgers loss). The River Hawks should match up well and continue the scoring spree. As for Long Island U, they had a great first half in their last game versus Towson but things fell apart after halftime. LIU has been above 68 points just once this year (111 against an overmatched Mount St. Vincent) and probably won’t be able to keep up if the River Hawks are hitting shots.
