The Eastern Illinois Panthers and the Ohio Bobcats meet Friday in college basketball action from Ohio University Convocation Center. Eastern Illinois is 1-4 on the year so far. The Panthers got their first win over SMWC in their last outing. As for the Bobcats, they’re 1-3 and coming off a loss to Michigan. Eastern Illinois stumbled out of the gate to four straight losses this season. The Panthers fell 87-57 versus Illinois, 54-49 against Illinois State, 76-60 to Central Michigan and 65-43 against Ohio State in their first quartet.

The Panthers finally got a W on Monday versus SMWC. Eastern Illinois was up 43-21 by the break and hit a 59-19 run in the second for a 102-40 blowout win. Tops in scoring was Kyle Carlesimo with 19 points and seven boards.

Over on the Ohio side, they took a close loss to Belmont 70-69 in their first game of the year. After an 81-70 win over Cleveland State in game two, the Bobcats fell again 88-74 against Detroit last Wednesday.

In Sunday’s matchup versus Michigan, the Bobcats posted a pretty impressive outing but still lost. Ohio hung around until overtime in a 70-66 defeat. Dwight Wilson led the way with his 21 points and nine boards. Jaylin Hunter added 14 points.

PICK: I’m going to try Ohio in this one. Granted, there’s not much to like about this matchup but the Bobcats are coming off a pretty nice game in a tough OT loss to Michigan. Ohio put up a sketchy 35.1 percent shooting from the floor, but had a 49-46 edge in rebounds (19-12 offensive) and 14-12 in assists. Eastern Illinois should be much closer to the Bobcats’ wheelhouse, and I like Ohio to power out a cover.
