Hofstra kicked things off pretty well this year with a 4-0 opening run. The wins came courtesy of Princeton, Iona, George Washington and San Jose State. After that came two losses to Saint Mary’s and Middle Tennessee.

Matched up against UNC Greensboro on Saturday, the Pride posted a 35-27 edge in the second half. Hofstra managed 30 second-half points in a 65-53 win. Darlinstone Dubar led the team on 17 points with five rebounds.

Over on the Bobcats’ side, they also hit a nice run out of the gate to kick off the 2022-23 campaign. The first six games were wins for Quinnipiac versus Rhode Island, Stonehill, Central CT State, Dartmouth, Albertus and Stephen F. Austin.

On Saturday versus Montana State, Quinnipiac held a slim two-point edge at halftime. Quinnipiac scored 44 points in the second half during a 70-53 win. Dezi Jones led the way on 16 points and seven rebounds.

PICK: I might try Hofstra in this one. The Pride looked pretty decent in the Saturday win over UNC Greensboro, shooting 44.7 percent from the field with 35 rebounds and 10 team assists. It was a nice bounce-back effort after putting up just 102 combined points in their previous two games. Hofstra is capable of more, though; the Pride hit 83 or more points in each of their first four games this year.

As for Quinnipiac, they shot 40.3 percent from the floor with 47 rebounds during the Montana State game. The Bobcats have scored pretty well overall this year with 67 or more in six of seven outings. This should be an interesting matchup, but I think Hofstra can eke out a cover/win.
