SMU vs Evansville 11/19/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Evansville Aces and the SMU Mustangs meet Saturday in college basketball action from SMU Moody Coliseum. Evansville is 1-2 on the year thus far. The Aces lost to Southeast Missouri State in their last game. As for SMU, they’re currently 1-2 and coming off a loss to New Mexico. Evansville kicked off the year with a pretty good effort versus Miami-OH. The Aces scored 42 second-half points in that one for a 78-74 win. In game two versus Saint Louis however, the Aces ended up losing 83-65 after just 26 second-half points. 

Evansville matched up against Southeast Missouri State on Wednesday for game three. The Aces were down 36-23 at halftime, and though they got better from there Evansville lost 67-61. Tops in scoring was Kenny Strawbridge with 22 points. 

Over on the SMU side, they didn’t have much trouble with Texas A&M-Commerce in their 2022-23 opener. The Mustangs had a mild four-point lead by halftime but ended up winning 77-60. Game two was a loss to Dayton 74-62. 

In the New Mexico matchup back on Tuesday, the Mustangs faced a 45-32 deficit at the break. SMU lost more ground from there in an 84-63 defeat. Zhuric Phelps led the team with 16 points, and Zach Nutall had 13 points. 

PICK: I’m leaning toward SMU, but I could probably go either way. There’s not a ton to get excited about in this matchup; both teams are coming off rough showings and need to get back to form. SMU shot just 35.9 percent from the field against a pretty good New Mexico team (who shot 52.5 percent) in their last outing. The Mustangs had just nine team assists to the Lobos’ 21 assists. As for Evansville, they’ve got just 126 combined points in their last two outings. If SMU can hit some shots early I think they’ll be fine.
