St. Mary’s vs Southern 11/16/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Southern Jaguars and the St. Mary’s Gaels meet Wednesday in college basketball action from McKeon Pavilion. Southern is 0-2 so far this year after a loss to Arizona in their last game back on Friday. As for St. Mary’s, they’re rolling along at 3-0 on the year. The Gaels beat North Texas in their last game. Southern has had a couple of pretty stout matchups so far this year. First came an opener versus UNLV. The Jaguars were down 33-25 by the break and ended up losing 66-56. Tops in scoring was Bryson Etienne with 25 points. 

In their second outing of the year versus Arizona, Southern trailed by 18 points after halftime. The Jaguars outscored the Wildcats 47-46 in the second in a 95-78 defeat. Etienne led the team again in that one with 17 points, four assists and three boards. 

Over on the St. Mary’s side, they had their closest game of the year so far in their opener, pulling off a 78-70 win over Oral Roberts after a 47-29 halftime edge. Game two was a blowout over Vermont; St. Mary’s left that one with a 79-53 victory. 

In Sunday’s game three matchup versus North Texas, St. Mary’s kept their run going. The Gaels were up 34-12 by halftime, cruising to an eventual 63-33 win. Alex Ducas put up 11 points with five rebounds and Mitchell Saxen had 12 rebounds. 

PICK: I’m probably staying with St. Mary’s in this one. The Gaels were great in their last matchup versus North Texas, shooting 49 percent from the floor and 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from 3-point range. As for Southern, they’ve had two games against relatively tough opponents this year so it’s hard to get a gauge on how good the team actually is. That said, if St. Mary’s comes out firing in this matchup I don’t think the Jaguars will keep the pace for long.
