Hawaii vs CSU-Bakersfield Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 1/29/23

The Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners and the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors meet Saturday in college basketball action from Stan Sheriff Center. CSU Bakersfield is fresh off a Thursday game against UC Davis. In that one the Roadrunners fell in blowout fashion. As for Hawaii, they played UC Santa Barbara in their Thursday matchup. CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners 

CSUB managed to go 5-11 over their first 16 games, beating SDCC, Idaho, Texas A&M-CC, La Sierra and Cal Poly in that time. The Roadrunners went 1-2 over the next trio with losses to CSU Fullerton and UC Santa Barbara. 

In the UC Davis game on Thursday, the Roadrunners were drilled 40-22 in the first half. Cal State Bakersfield got better with 36 second-half points but still lost 79-58. Antavion Collum led the team on 20 points and four rebounds. 

Hawaii Rainbow Warriors

Over on the Hawaii side, they were a solid 12-4 after 16 games this year, losing to only Yale, Texas A&M-Commerce, UNLV and CSU Fullerton. The Warriors hit a 3-1 stretch after that, beating Long Beach State, CSU Northridge and UC Riverside. 

Matched up against UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, Hawaii took a 36-27 deficit into the break. The Warriors hit a 37-29 run in the second half but couldn’t come back in a 65-64 loss. Samuta Avea led the team with 13 points and three assists.

I’ll probably stick with Hawaii. The Warriors are coming off a tough loss to a pretty good UC Santa Barbara team thanks to a rough first half. Hawaii is a sketchy 3-3 in their last six outings, but for the most part the Warriors have been competitive in their losses. As for CSU Bakersfield, they’re riding a string of three straight losses and haven’t cracked 58 points for six straight games. Hawaii should be in full control here if they play to their capabilities.
