The Navy Midshipmen and the Loyola MD Greyhounds meet Saturday in college basketball action from Reitz Arena. Navy is currently 8-9 overall. The Midshipmen lost to Lafayette in their last game. As for Loyola, they’re 6-12 after a win over Bucknell on Wednesday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Navy went 7-5 over their first 12 games with losses to Coppin State, Lipscomb, VMI, West Virginia and VCU. The Midshipmen would then beat Boston U and fall to Holy Cross, Colgate, Lehigh and Lafayette over the next five.

In the Lafayette game on Wednesday, the Midshipmen took a 31-27 lead into the break. Navy was outscored 32-19 from there and lost it 59-50. Daniel Deaver led the team on 15 points with five rebounds.

Over on the Loyola MD side, they hit a 4-8 run in their first 12 with wins over Brown, Washington MD, LA-Monroe and Binghamton. The Greyhounds are 2-4 over their last six with wins over Goucher and Bucknell.

Matched up against Bucknell on Wednesday, the Greyhounds were up 31-25 by halftime. Loyola MD hit a 36-32 second-half run and took the win 67-57. Deon Perry was the leading team scorer on 22 points with four rebounds.

PICK: I’m going to try Navy in this one. There’s not a whole lot of intrigue involved in this one, but it should be a reasonably competitive game. The Midshipmen need a bounce-back effort here following a listless second-half performance versus a struggling Lafayette team in their last outing. Navy has now lost four straight games but this matchup should be in their wheelhouse. As for Loyola MD, they played pretty well against Bucknell in their last outing but they haven’t cracked 67 points at all during this 1-4 stretch. Navy should have a decent shot at a cover here.
