Tennessee Volunteers

Tennessee hit a 10-2 run over their first dozen games this year, losing to Colorado and Arizona in that time. The Volunteers would beat Ole Miss, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Vanderbilt before losing to Kentucky.

Back on Saturday versus Kentucky, the Volunteers were in trouble with a 33-26 halftime deficit. Tennessee kept the pace from there but still lost 63-56. Uros Plavsic led the team on 19 points, and Santiago Vescovi put up 13 points.

Mississippi State Bulldogs
Over on the Mississippi State side, they won their first 11 games of the year before falling 58-52 to Drake on December 20. The Bulldogs are 1-4 in their last five games with losses to Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Auburn.

Matched up against Auburn on Saturday, the Bulldogs were outscored 30-22 in the first half. Mississippi State posted 41 points from there in a 69-63 defeat. Tolu Smith was tops on the team with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK:

I’m going to stick with Tennessee I suppose. The Volunteers really need a bounce-back effort here after falling to Kentucky at home, though. Tennessee was out-rebounded 43-23 in that one (13-4 offensive) and hit just 3-of-21 from 3-point range. The Volunteers should look better here; the last time these teams met up back on January 3, Tennessee powered out an 87-53 victory. As for Mississippi State, they’ve been all over the place during this current 1-5 run. That said, the Bulldogs can still hang around with just about anyone if they’re playing well. I don’t think Mississippi State will quite power out the cover here, though.

Andrew's Free Pick: Tennessee Volunteers -6.5
