Rhode Island vs La Salle Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 1/28/23

The La Salle Explorers and the Rhode Island Rams meet Saturday in college basketball action from Ryan Center. La Salle is 8-12 overall. The Explorers lost to Davidson in their last outing. La Salle Explorers 

La Salle lost to Villanova, Wake Forest, Georgetown, Temple, Drexel, Cincinnati, Lafayette and VCU in their first 16 games this year. The Explorers are 0-4 since then, losing to Fordham, Saint Joseph’s, Saint Louis and Davidson in that time. 

In the Davidson game on Tuesday, the Explorers took a 33-32 edge into the break. La Salle was outscored 32-24 from there and fell 64-57. Leading the way in scoring was Daeshon Shepherd with 14 points and five rebounds. 

Rhode Island Rams 

Over on the Rhode Island side, they were just 5-10 after 15 games with wins over Stony Brook, Illinois State, Army, UMass Lowell and Fordham. The Rams are 2-3 since then with losses to UMass, Richmond and George Mason. 

In the matchup versus Dayton on Wednesday, the Rams were up 32-27 going into the second half. Rhode Island kept the pace on 43 more points and won it 75-70. Ishmael Leggett posted 25 points with six rebounds to top the team. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’ll probably stay with Rhode Island. Granted, there’s not a ton of intrigue involved in this game with both teams struggling, but it should be a competitive matchup. Rhode Island took a tough 77-75 overtime loss at Tom Gola Arena the last time these teams met up back on January 7. The Rams have gone a sketchy 2-3 since then but they scored 65 or more points in four of those five. I like another pretty close game most of the way in this one, with Rhode Island powering out a revenge cover. Should be a fun one to watch.
