Rhode Island vs St. Bonaventure 1/11/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The St. Bonaventure Bonnies and the Rhode Island Rams meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Ryan Center. St. Bonaventure stands at 8-8 so far this year. The Bonies lost to Saint Louis in their last game. As for Rhode Island, they’re 5-10 on the season and coming off a loss to La Salle. St. Bonaventure went 6-4 over their first 10 games this year, losing to Canisius, SD State, Buffalo and Iona along the way. The Bonnies are 2-4 since then with losses to FGCU, Siena, Northern Iowa and Saint Louis.

In the Billikens matchup on Saturday, the Bonnies were outscored 39-23 in the first half. St. Bonaventure didn’t get any closer on a 39-32 second-half deficit and lost 78-55. Chad Venning led the team on 23 points and six rebounds. 

Over on the Rhode Island side, they managed just three wins over Stony Brook, Illinois State and Army in their first 10 games. The Rams have gone 2-3 in the last five with losses to Georgie State, Duquesne and La Salle. 

Matched up against the Explorers on Saturday, the Rams posted a 36-31 first-half deficit, a 40-35 second-half advantage and a 6-4 overtime deficit for a 77-75 loss. Khalil Brantley was tops on 29 points and eight boards. 

PICK: I’ll probably stick with St. Bonaventure here. The Bonnies need a solid bounce-back effort, though; they didn’t fare too well against a pretty good Saint Louis team on Saturday. In any case, St. Bonaventure has scored 70 or more points in three of their last five games and so long as they find their rhythm early in this one I think they’ll be okay. Rhode Island has been a mixed bag offensively but they can score well in the right matchups. Should be a fun one, and I like the Bonnies to eke out the cover/win in the end.
