Southern Indiana vs Tennessee State Pick – Basketball Predictions & Odds 2/2/23

Tennessee State Tigers 

Tennessee State lost six of their first 15 games versus Southern IL, High Point, Saint Louis, Austin Peay, Charleston Southern and Morehead State. The Tigers are 3-5 in their last eight games with wins over Lindenwood (twice) and Eastern IL. 

In the rematch versus Lindenwood on Saturday, the Tigers went into the locker room with a 44-30 edge. Tennessee State posted a 39-36 run from there and won 83-66. Marcus Fitzgerald was the leading team scorer on 22 points and six assists. 

Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles

Over on the Southern Indiana side, they lost to Missouri, Notre Dame, St. Bonaventure, Western IL, Chicago State, Fort Wayne, Eastern IL and Morehead State in their first 16 outings. The Eagles are 5-2 since then with losses to SIUE and TN-Martin. 

Matched up against the Skyhawks on Saturday, the Eagles scored 28 points in the first half 46 in the second and nine in overtime during a tough loss 86-83. Jelani Simmons put up 26 points, and Jacob Polakovich added 12 points with 20 rebounds. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I’ll probably take Southern Indiana in this one. The Eagles are coming off a tough overtime loss to a decent TN-Martin team, but they’ve been playing well lately over this 5-1 stretch. Southern Indiana has scored 74 or more points in all six of those outings. As for Tennessee State, they’ve hit 75 or more points for four straight games so it wouldn’t be surprising to see a high total here. I like a close, tight matchup here in an eventual Southern Indiana cover. Should be a fun one.
