TN-Martin Skyhawks
Tennessee-Martin opened up the year on a 15-9 stretch through 24 games. The Skyhawks finished off the regular season with a 3-4 run, beating Little Rock, SIU-Edwardsville and Tennessee Tech with losses to Lindenwood, Eastern Illinois, Tennessee State and Morehead State.
Matched up against SIU-Edwardsville in tournament activity on Thursday, the Skyhawks were down 36-35 in the locker room. TN-Martin hit a 46-39 second-half run and won it 81-75. Jordan Sears was the leading team scorer on 33 points and five rebounds.
Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles
Over on the Tennessee Tech side, they were sitting at 10-14 overall at the 24-game mark this year. The Eagles are on a 5-2 stretch since then, taking wins over Southeast Missouri State, Southern Indiana, Lindenwood, Southern Indiana again and Eastern Illinois.
Back on Saturday versus Eastern Illinois, the Eagles held a slim 32-31 halftime edge. In the second, Tennessee Tech posted a 43-35 run and took the victory 75-66. Jayvis Harvey managed 17 points and Jaylen Sebree doubled on 13 points and 10 boards.

I’m going to lean toward Tennessee Tech in this one. You’ll probably be able to make a case either way, though. These teams have met twice before and split the results, with the visiting team taking each victory. The Eagles won the first installment back on January 7 84-80, then lost 100-91 on February 18. Tennessee Tech has since had a couple of strong outings, scoring a combined 157 points. The Skyhawks closed out the year on a couple of losses, but they did a nice job in the first installment of the OVC Tournament on Thursday against SIU Edwardsville. This third matchup is bound to be another close one, and I think I’ll ultimately like the Eagles a little better cover-wise.
