Utah State vs Wyoming 1/10/23 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Wyoming Cowboys and the Utah State Aggies meet in college basketball action from the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Tuesday night.

The Wyoming Cowboys will try to snap a five-game losing skid after an 80-75 loss to San Diego State last time out. Noah Reynolds leads Wyoming in scoring with 14.3 PPG while Hunter Maldonado has 13 PPG and a team-high 3.4 APG to lead the Cowboys in assists as the only other double-digit scorer for Wyoming up to this point in the season. Hunter Thompson also has a team-high 5.1 RPG as well for the Cowboys on the glass this season. As a team, Wyoming is averaging 71.1 PPG on 45.7% shooting from the field, 34.6% from behind the arc and 69.8% from the foul line this season.

The Utah State Aggies will be looking to rebound from an 82-59 beatdown loss to Boise State in their last matchup. Steven Ashworth leads the Aggies in scoring and assists with 16.1 PPG and 4.1 APG while Taylor Funk has 13.6 PPG with 5.7 RPG this season. Dan Akin has 11.9 PPG with a team-high 6.9 RPG and Max Shulga has 12.1 PPG with 5.3 RPG and 4.1 APG of his own this season. Sean Bairstow also has 10.7 PPG and 4.3 RPG to finish off the group of double-digit scorers for Utah State so far this season. As a team, Utah State is averaging 81.8 PPG on 48.9% shooting from the field, 42.8% from three and 72.9% from the foul line this season.

Wyoming is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 games overall while the under is 16-5 in their last 21 road games. Utah State is 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS loss and 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games overall while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 home games against a team with a losing road record.

I get the case to be made on either side in this game, but I’m leaning towards Wyoming and the points. Utah State did not look good against Boise State and while it may have just been a one off on the road, this isn’t an ideal opponent for the Aggies going back home, as Wyoming has had a tendency to be a thorn in the side of Utah State, going 4-0-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. I’m not saying that Wyoming wins this outright, but the Cowboys can keep this one within single digits. Give me the Cowboys and the points here.
