Cal Poly vs UC Davis 1/15/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The UC Davis Aggies and the Cal Poly Mustangs meet Saturday in college basketball action from Mott Athletic Center. UC Davis is 7-4 on the year so far. The Aggies beat UC San Diego in their most recent game. As for Cal Poly, they’re 3-10 and coming off a loss to UC Riverside. UC Davis posted a 2-3 run in their first five games with wins over only Eastern Washington and Utah State. The Aggies then hit a win streak over Pacific, UC Merced, Oregon State and Pacific. After a loss to Portland, UC Davis took out UC San Diego last weekend. 

Back on Saturday versus UC San Diego, the Aggies were down 39-37 at the break. UC Davis rallied from there with 41 points in a 78-71 comeback win. Top scorer Elijah Pepper put up 23 points and nine boards. Caleb Fuller added 22 points and five rebounds. 

Over on the Cal Poly side, they won three of their first nine games this year versus Westcliff, Idaho and Portland State. The Mustangs have been on a slide since then, falling to Portland, Fresno State, CSU Northridge and UC Riverside. 

Cal Poly could only score 22 points in the first half of Thursday’s game versus UC Riverside. The Mustangs ended up with a 57-46 loss. Alimamy Koroma led the team on 15 points with nine boards. Kobe Sanders added 10 points off the bench. 

Cal Poly is 28-59-2 ATS in their last 89 Saturday games and 18-46-1 ATS in their last 65 home games. The under is 24-9 in the Mustangs’ last 33 overall.
Meanwhile, the Aggies are 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 after an ATS win and 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 road games. UC Davis is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.

PICK: I’m going to take UC Davis. Probably not going near this one, though. The Aggies have been a mixed bag scoring-wise this year, but lately they’ve been better. UC Davis has hit 71 or more points in four of their last five, going 4-1 in that stretch. Conversely, Cal Poly has been at 55 or fewer points in each of their last three games and they’re struggling to find a rhythm. UC Davis should have full control of this one barring a major breakdown on offense.
