The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos and the Cal Poly Mustangs meet Saturday in college basketball action from Mott Athletic Center. UC Santa Barbara is 10-9 on the year and fresh off a win over CSU Bakersfield. As for Cal Poly, they’re sitting at 5-16 so far. The Mustangs lost to CSU Northridge in double overtime during their last appearance. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

UC Santa Barbara got off to a 7-5 start through 12 games this year. The Gauchos were only able to play two games (both losses) from December 30 to January 25, though. The last two games have both been wins over UC San Diego and CSU Bakersfield.

Matched up against CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, the Gauchos posted 36 points in the first half and 38 more in the second on the way to a solid 74-62 victory. Leading team scorer Ajay Mitchell put up 21 points with three rebounds and two assists.

Over on the Cal Poly side, they hit a 3-8 start to their campaign, then were shut down for postponements from December 17 to January 8. The Mustangs have lost four straight games to UC Irvine, CSU Fullerton, Long Beach State and CSU Northridge in their last quartet.

On Thursday in the CSU Northridge game, the Mustangs fought back from a 30-24 halftime deficit and forced overtime. After two extra periods, Cal Poly ended up falling 83-78. Alimamy Koroma led the way on 20 points with eight rebounds.

The Mustangs are 19-48-1 ATS in their last 68 at home and 29-62-2 ATS in their last 93 Saturday games. Cal Poly is 3-8 ATS in their last 11 overall.
Meanwhile, the Gauchos are 2-7 ATS in their last nine road games and 5-2 ATS in the last seven after an ATS win. The under is 7-3 in UCSB’s last 10 Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going to try UC Santa Barbara here. The Gauchos looked pretty sketchy in the Hawaii and UC Irvine games; they hit just 114 combined points in that pair and lost both (but only by a combined four points). Since then UCSB has managed a combined 158 points in their last two games. Considering the fact that Cal Poly has had major troubles scoring lately, I think the Gauchos have a good cover opportunity in this one.
