The Manhattan Jaspers and the Canisius Golden Griffins meet Friday in college basketball action from Koessler Athletic Center. Manhattan is riding a nine-game losing streak at 4-12 overall. The Jaspers fell to Fairfield in their last game. As for Canisius, they’re currently 7-11 on the year after a loss to Saint Peter’s. Let’s get into our Manhattan vs. Canisius prediction. Manhattan Jaspers

The Jaspers didn’t start out the year too badly, hitting a 4-3 run over their first seven games. It’s been a rough losing streak since then, as Manhattan has fallen to Marist, Fairleigh Dickinson, Monmouth, Wagner, Niagara, Quinnipiac, Rider, Saint Peter’s and Fairfield in that time.

In the Fairfield game on Sunday, the Jaspers faced a 38-35 deficit going into the second half. Manhattan didn’t get any closer on a 44-40 run from there and lost 82-75. Leading scorer Shaquill Bender put up 21 points with three rebounds, and Seydou Traore added 12 rebounds.

Canisius Golden Griffins

Over on the Canisius side, they were able to win six of their first 10 games this year. The Griffins are just 1-7 in their last eight though, with losses to Pittsburgh, High Point, Mount St. Mary’s, Rider, Fairfield, Iona and Saint Peter’s among a win over Siena on January 12.

Back on Sunday versus Saint Peter’s, the Griffins held a slim 37-36 edge by halftime. Canisius was outscored 34-22 from there and lost 70-59, though. Devean Williams was the team’s leading scorer in the losing effort with 15 points, three steals and three rebounds off the bench.

ANDREW’S FREE MANHATTAN VS CANISIUS PREDICTION

I’m going to try Manhattan. Probably not touching this one, though; there’s not a lot of intrigue involved here as both teams are struggling. The Jaspers didn’t shoot too badly in their latest loss to Fairfield with 45.3 percent from the field. The rebounding (38) was pretty solid as well, but Manhattan also coughed up 14 turnovers that led to 16 Stags points. The Jaspers have now given up 71 or more points in five straight outings. Normally that would be good news for Canisius, but the Griffins have scored just 117 combined points in their last pair. This game could go a lot of different ways; I’m leaning toward the Jaspers cover-wise, though.
