UC Santa Barbara started out the year on a 7-5 run, but was only able to play two games (both losses) between December 30 and January 25. Since then it’s been a 2-2 run for the Gauchos with wins over CSU Northridge and UC San Diego.
Matched up against UC San Diego on Saturday, the Gauchos posted a 46-24 run in the first half and cruised to an eventual 84-48 blowout victory. Leading the way in scoring was Miles Norris with 32 points and five rebounds.
Over on the Cal State Bakersfield side, their year began at 5-5. The Roadrunners had a cancellation pause from December 30 through January 15 and have gone just 1-6 since. CSU Bakersfield’s latest loss came versus CSU Fullerton.
On Saturday versus CSU Fullerton, the Roadrunners were outscored 25-36 in the first half. Cal State Bakersfield didn’t end up getting any closer in a 75-61 loss. The only double-digit team scorer was David Walker with 14 points.
The Roadrunners are 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home and 1-5 ATS in their last six Thursday games. CSUB is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Gauchos are 1-7 ATS in their last eight road games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 overall. UCSB is 1-4 ATS in their last five Thursday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on UC Santa Barbara but probably not going near this one. The Gauchos have a couple of good outings in this 2-2 run; they’ve hit 72 or more points in both of their wins. CSU Bakersfield hasn’t been scoring very well themselves with 65 or fewer points in each of their last five (all losses). All things considered this should be a competitive game for the most part but cover-wise the Gauchos are probably the better play. A lot of different things could happen here, though.
