Bellarmine hit a spotty 6-8 run over their first 14 games this year. The Knights have lost just four games since December 21, however. It’s been a 4-1 run in the last five with wins over North Florida, North Alabama, Central Arkansas and Lipscomb.
Matched up against Lipscomb on Wednesday, the Knights posted a 44-35 advantage after one half. Bellarmine was outscored 32-38 in the second but held on for the 76-73 win. CJ Fleming was the top scorer with 20 points and two assists.
Over on the Eastern Kentucky side, they were sitting at 8-6 as the calendar year began. The Colonels have won just four games since then. Following a win over North Alabama, the Colonels have lost to Central Arkansas and Jacksonville State in the last pair.
In the Jacksonville State matchup on Wednesday, the Colonels were drilled 28-45 in the first half. Eastern Kentucky got better from there but still lost 81-68. Michael Moreno led the team with his 23 points and six rebounds during the defeat.
The Colonels are 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home and 1-6 ATS in their last seven Saturday games. Eastern Kentucky is 5-16 ATS in their last 21 overall.
Meanwhile, the Knights are 7-0-1 ATS in their last eight road games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 after a straight-up win.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Bellarmine. The Knights are on a nice pace right now. They’ve hit 70 or more points in five of their last six games, going 4-2 in that time. Eastern Kentucky is scoring pretty well themselves lately, but they’re also giving up a ton of points on the other side.
These teams last met up back on January 8 in a 66-61 home win for Bellarmine. I like this one to be an even higher-scoring game as Bellarmine sticks out a road cover. Should be a fun matchup.
