The Manhattan Jaspers and the Fairfield Stags meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Webster Bank Arena. Manhattan is 12-11 on the year so far. Manhattan managed an 8-3 start to the year, then couldn’t play a game from December 21 to January 14. It’s been a rough ride since then. The Jaspers have won just four games over Canisius, Siena, Marist and Quinnipiac.
On Sunday versus Quinnipiac, the Jaspers posted a 42-36 run in the first half and a 41-30 stretch from there in an 83-66 win. Tops in scoring was Jose Perez with 21 points and five assists. Ant Nelson added 15 points as well.
Over on the Fairfield side, they posted an 8-3 run to start their season, then hit a seven-game losing streak. The Stats are 4-3 since then with victories versus Marist, Rider, Niagara and Canisius during that time.
On Monday in the Canisius game, the Stags went into halftime with a seven-point lead but ultimately needed overtime to decide things. Fairfield would go on to bag an 80-76 win. Jesus Cruz was the top player on 25 points and eight rebounds.
The Stags are 1-4 ATS in their last five at home and 4-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. The under is 3-1-1 in Fairfield’s last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Jaspers are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. Manhattan is 1-4 ATS in the last five overall.
PICK: I’m going to try Fairfield in this one. That said, neither of these teams has been all that reliable lately. The good news is that the Stags have hit 73 or more points in consecutive games; the bad news is that Fairfield has 60 or fewer points in three of the last five. That said, Manhattan is coming off a good offensive showing themselves and can score when the matchup is right. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one hit a relatively high total, and I like Fairfield a little better on the cover.
