The UMass Minutemen will travel to Rose Hill Gymnasium to take on the Fordham Rams this Monday night in College Basketball action.

The UMass Minutemen lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 12-15 on the season after being defeated by the VCU Rams, 77-62, this past Saturday. UMass struggled on both ends of the court against VCU and could not fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 41-23 margin. UMass shot just 38.2% from the field & 15.8% from beyond the arc while allowing VCU to shoot 52.7% from the field & 45.5% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Minutemen was Trent Buttrick who had 12 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, & 1 steal.

On the season, UMass is averaging 74.6 ppg on 42.85% shooting from the field. The Minutemen are averaging 9.9 three-pointers per game on 38.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UMass has been led by Noah Fernandes (13.7 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.3 spg), Rich Kelly (12.4 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 3.3 apg), Trent Buttrick (11.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.0 spg), & C.J. Keely (10.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.7 apg).

Defensively, UMass is allowing their opponents to average 77.7 ppg on 48.9% shooting from the field. The Minutemen have a rebound margin of -2.0 and a turnover margin of -0.8.

The Fordham Rams had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 13-14 on the season after being defeated by the Davidson Wildcats, 66-45, this past Saturday. Fordham struggled on the offensive end against Davidson and could not fight back after Davidson took a 58-33 lead with 7:08 left in regulation. Fordham shot just 24.5% from the field & 13.3% from beyond the arc while allowing Davidson to shoot 37.3% from the field & 17.9% from beyond the arc.

On the season, Fordham is averaging 66.6 ppg on 39.9% shooting from the field. The Rams are averaging 7.7 three-pointers per game on 30.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Fordham has been led by Darius Quisenberry (17.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.5 spg), Chuba Ohams (14.0 ppg, 11.3 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.8 bpg), Kyle Rose (7.9 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.3 spg), & Antrell Charlton (7.4 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.7 spg).

Defensively, Fordham is holding their opponents to an average of 66.5 ppg on 42.6% shooting from the field. The Rams have a rebound margin of -0.6 and a turnover margin of 1.1.

The Minutemen are 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games & 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. Fordham. The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games & 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games.

UMass has been decent on the offensive end this season, ranking t-97th in scoring offense mostly due to solid three-point shooting, however, the Minutemen have really struggled defensively and come into this game ranked just 333rd in scoring defense & 347th in defensive FG%. Fordham has struggled on the offensive end, ranking just 286th in scoring offense, however, the Rams have been solid defensively and come into this game ranked 99th in scoring defense, 150th in defensive FG%, & 78th in steals per game. Fordham struggled against Davidson, however, the Rams have played well at home this season and between the fact that UMass is just 2-7 on the road and that I think the Rams offense will be able find some success against the below average Minutemen defense, I’m taking Fordham to cover this home spread. Good Luck!
