The VCU Rams and the Fordham Rams meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Rose Hill Gym. VCU is 16-7 on the year so far. The Rams beat George Mason in their last outing. VCU hit a rough 3-4 run coming out of the gate this year, but quickly got into the swing of things. The Rams are 6-1 in their last seven games. They’ve taken wins over Saint Joseph’s, Davidson, Richmond, Duquesne, Rhode Island and George Mason in that time.
In the George Mason game on Saturday, VCU posted 40 points in the first half and 45 more in the second on the way to a nice 85-70 win. Adrian Baldwin doubled up with 18 points and 10 boards, while Vince Williams added 18 points of his own.
Over on the Fordham side, they started out 7-5 this year, then were only able to play one game from December 12 to January 12. Fordham is just 2-7 in their last nine games, but the Rams did manage a win over Duquesne in their last outing.
Matched up against Duquesne, Fordham nabbed a 34-24 halftime edge and was able to hang on for the 65-54 win. Chuba Ohams was the top team scorer, doubling up on 18 points, 14 rebounds and one assist during the victory.
Fordham is 8-1 ATS in their last nine at home and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS win. Fordham is 11-4 ATS in their last 15 overall.
Meanwhile, VCU is 23-11 ATS in their last 34 Tuesday games and 14-5 ATS in their last 19 overall. The over is 4-0 in VCU’s last four overall.
PICK: I’m going to stay with VCU. The Rams have scored quite well over this three-game win streak, hitting 71 or more in each outing. Generally VCU has been consistent in putting up points this calendar year, but they do have a few duds on the schedule.
As for Fordham, they’ve been below 70 points in each of their last seven games, going 2-5 during that time. If VCU can snag some early buckets here and keep a good rhythm going I think they’ll be fine on a cover.
