The Richmond Spiders and the George Washington Colonials meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Charles E. Smith Center. Richmond is 17-10 this year so far. The Spiders lost to VCU in their last game. As for George Washington, they’re sitting at 11-14 and coming off a win over Rhode Island. Richmond managed a fairly choppy 10-7 record over their first 17 games, but they’ve been better since then. The Spiders are just 1-2 in their last trio, however; they’ve got a win over La Salle between losses to George Mason and VCU.
Matched up against VCU on Friday, the Spiders held the pace at 28-28 in the first half. Richmond was outscored 29-49 from there in a 77-57 loss. Tyler Burton was tops on the team, doubling with 13 points and 11 boards.
Over on the George Washington side, their year started out a fairly ugly 6-12 through 18 games. The Colonials have gone 5-2 since then with wins over Fordham, La Salle, UMass, Duquesne and Rhode Island mixed in.
In the Rhode Island game on Saturday, the Colonials had a 44-30 lead by the break. George Washington was outscored 28-31 in the second half but held on for the 72-61 win. Joe Bamisile topped the team with 20 points and four rebounds.
The Colonials are 2-14 ATS in their last 16 Tuesday games and 8-1 ATS in their last nine overall. George Washington is 6-1 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Spiders are 4-0 ATS in their last four Tuesday games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 after a straight-up loss. Richmond is 13-5-1 ATS in their last 19 road games.
PICK: I’m going to stay with George Washington. The Colonials haven’t always been a consistent offensive team this year, but they’re doing fairly well lately. George Washington has hit 72 or more points in five of their last six games and should be able to post a decent total in this one. As for Richmond, they’ve been at 71 or more in four of their last six games so this one could turn into a shootout. Interesting matchup, but I think the Colonials have control cover-wise.
