The Rider Broncs and the Manhattan Jaspers meet Sunday in college basketball action from Draddy Gymnasium. Rider is 10-15 on the year so far. The Broncs lost to Monmouth in their last game. Rider got off to a slow start this year, managing to win just six of their first 19 games. The Broncs have improved since then on a 4-2 run, however. That said, Rider has lost their last two games versus Siena and Monmouth.
Matched up against Monmouth on Friday, the Broncs held a two-point lead by halftime. Rider was outscored 29-33 from there in a 60-58 defeat. Leading scorer Mervin James posted 17 points with three rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Manhattan side, they got off to an 8-3 start before pausing from December 21 to January 14. Since then the Jaspers have been shaky, but they’ve won consecutive games over Quinnipiac and Fairfield in their last pair.
In the Fairfield game, the Jaspers trailed by three points at the break. Manhattan surged on a 44-34 second-half run to take the 74-67 victory. Leading team scorer Jose Perez came up with 21 points, five assists and two steals in the win.
The Jaspers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Sunday games and the over is 6-1-1 in their last eight Sunday games. The over is 22-8-1 in Manhattan’s last 31 overall.
Meanwhile, the Broncs are 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven road games and 5-1 ATS in their last six overall. The under is 5-1 in Rider’s last six road games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Rider. You could probably make a good case either way here, though. The Broncs are 4-2 in their last six games, and the two losses each came by two or fewer points. One of the wins during that stretch was a 76-67 affair over Manhattan on February 8.
The Jaspers have been playing well over the last two games themselves and they’ll be glad to get back to Draddy Gym for this one. I like this game to be a fun battle with Rider ultimately powering out the cover. Should be a good one.
