The Central Michigan Chippewas and the Marquette Golden Eagles meet Saturday in college basketball action from Fiserv Forum. Here’s a Marquette vs Central Michigan prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Marquette vs Central Michigan pick.

Central Michigan Chippewas Betting Preview

The Chippewas have five games in the books so far this year. The first four proved to be a .500 run for Central Michigan. The opener on November 3 was an 82-66 victory over Appalachian State. In that one the Chippewas scored 44 second-half points on the way to the win. Leading scorer Tamario Adley finished with 22 points and seven rebounds. In game two Central Michigan took their first loss of the year 85-54 versus Bradley. Keenan Garner was tops this time on 12 points and eight boards. In game three it was another loss for Central Michigan 66-64 versus South Alabama in a close outcome. Tops in scoring was Logan McIntire with 21 points and four boards. As for game four, that was a victory over Coppin State 82-59. Nathan Claerbaut managed to double up in the win with 20 points and 11 rebounds in 28 minutes.

In Thursday’s matchup with Northern Kentucky, the Chippewas were facing a 44-30 deficit by the end of the first half. Things didn’t get any better from there for Central Michigan, as they trailed 46-36 the rest of the way in a 90-66 blowout loss. Leading the team in scoring during the losing effort was Nick Mullen with 12 points and four rebounds. Logan McIntire added 11 points with five assists and four boards, while both Nathan Claerbaut (six rebounds) and Phat Phat Brooks (two rebounds; two assists) added 10 points each.

Marquette Golden Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Marquette side, their campaign began versus Albany. The Golden Eagles posted an 80-53 blowout win in that one. Tops in scoring was Chase Ross with 15 points, five assists and four rebounds. Zaide Lowery added 13 points with four rebounds and two assists.  Marquette’s second game was against Southern, and also a home matchup. This one was a 100-82 victory. Ross was the leader with 23 points, six boards and six assists in 28 minutes. Caedin Hamilton, Lowery and Sean Jones each had 12 points and two rebounds. As for game three versus Indiana, that turned into a 100-77. Topping the team in scoring was Chase Ross with 19 points and five rebounds. Against Little Rock, the Eagles posted an 89-49 blowout win at home. Chase Ross scored 16 points with five assists and three rebounds, and Nigel James added 13 points with two assists. Marquette would lose to Maryland last Saturday though, draping the game 89-82 at Fiserv Forum.

The Golden Eagles took another loss in their last game on Wednesday, this time 77-71 versus a pretty good Dayton team. Marquette fought through overtime but couldn’t keep the pace. Nigel James led the team with his 18 points, five assists and three rebounds. Chase Ross added 15 points and four rebounds while Zaide Lowery had 10 points with three boards in the loss.

Why the Marquette Golden Eagles will win

  • Central Michigan has lost the first half in each of its last five games against the Big East Conference.

  • Marquette has lost five of its last six day games.
  • Central Michigan has won the first half in five of its last six day games.

Marquette vs Central Michigan Prediction

I’ll take a stab on Marquette. I’m probably not touching this one after the Eagles’ last couple games, though. Marquette didn’t shoot well at all in the loss to Dayton this past week, hitting 38.5 percent from the field. The 20 turnovers were pretty ugly as well—it was a sloppy game overall (the Flyers had 23 turnovers of their own). The Eagles also got outscored in the paint 34-32 and gave up 53.1 percent shooting. All of that said, Marquette has put up 71 or more points in every game so far and 80 or more in four of six. This will likely be a higher-scoring affair but I think the Eagles can pull it off if all goes well.
