In this article, we will formulate a Marquette vs Creighton prediction for this College Basketball game on Friday, January 3rd at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this College Basketball matchup.

Marquette Golden Eagles Betting Preview

The Marquette Golden Eagles are 12-2 (3-0) this season after they defeated Providence by a score of 78-50 in their last game. Marquette led 47-20 at halftime and they cruised to an easy victory in the second half. The Golden Eagles shot 43.9% from the field, 30.6% on three-pointers, and 81.8% on free throws in the game. Kam Jones led Marquette with 18 points and 10 assists, while Stevie Mitchell added 14 points and five rebounds in the game.

Prior to that win, the Golden Eagles defeated Xavier by a score of 72-70 and Butler by a score of 80-70. Marquette has won three games in a row and their only losses so far this season were against Iowa State and Dayton. Marquette has scored 80.5 points per game and they have allowed 66.1 points per game, while also averaging 34.1 rebounds and 15.0 assists per game this season. Kam Jones is averaging 20.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game, while David Joplin is averaging 14.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game this year. Marquette is shooting 46.6% from the field, 74.2% on free throws, and 32.5% on three-pointers this season.

Creighton Bluejays Betting Preview

The Creighton Bluejays are 9-5 (2-1) this year after they defeated St. John’s by a score of 57-56 in their last game. Creighton trailed 28-26 at halftime, but they did score 31 points in the second half for the win. The Bluejays shot 41.5% from the field, 34.6% on three-pointers, and 57.1% on free throws in the game. Steven Ashworth led Creighton with 18 points and five rebounds, while Ryan Kalkbrenner added 16 points and nine rebounds in the game.

Prior to that win, the Bluejays defeated Villanova by a score of 86-79 but did lose to Georgetown by a score of 81-57 before that. Creighton has won five of their last seven games, including an 83-75 loss to Alabama and a 76-63 win over Kansas. Creighton has scored 75.4 points per game and they have allowed 70.0 points per game, while also averaging 38.2 rebounds and 17.1 assists per game this season. Ryan Kalkbrenner is averaging 17.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game, while Steven Ashworth is averaging 17.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game this year. Creighton is shooting 46.7% from the field, 76.3% on free throws, and 35.1% on three-pointers this season.

Why Creighton will beat Marquette

  • Creighton has won five of its last six games against Marquette following a home win.
  • The road team has won the first half in each of Marquette’s last five games.

Marquette vs Creighton Prediction

Creighton comes into this matchup after picking up a very close win against St. John’s last time out, but they will need a much better effort if they want to win this one. The Bluejays picked up a bad loss against Georgetown in their last road game and they have allowed 81 and 83 points in their last two games away from home. Marquette has won their first three conference games, but they did nearly lose to Xavier two games ago. The Golden Eagles are ranked #8 in the nation, but they aren’t great at rebounding and Kalkbrenner could give them some trouble here. I do think this will be a competitive game and while I don’t love how Creighton has played this season, I do think their offense will keep them in the game. Take the points with Creighton here.
