NC State Improves To 4-0
The NC State Wolfpack come into this one looking to build on their 4-0 start to the year after an 84-78 win over Vanderbilt in the semifinals of the tournament. DJ Burns Jr. and Jayden Taylor share the team lead in scoring with 14.3 PPG with Burns Jr. adding 5.3 RPG and 2.8 APG while Taylor has 2.5 APG. DJ Horne has 12 PPG with 3.8 RPG and Casey Morsell has 11.8 PPG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for NC State so far this season. BYU Routs Arizona State
The BYU Cougars improved their record to 5-0 on the year by dismantling Arizona State by a final score of 77-49. Noah Waterman has 12 PPG with a team-high 7 RPG to lead the Cougars on the glass while Fousseyni Traore has 11.8 PPG with 6.6 RPG and Spencer Johnson has 10.8 PPG with 5.4 RPG and a team-high 5.2 APG to lead the Cougars in the assist department this season. Richie Saunders has 10.2 PPG with 5 RPG to cap off the scoring in double figures for BYU so far this season. Dallin Hall also has 9 PPG with 4.2 APG as well this season. As a team, BYU is averaging 91.8 PPG on 47.5% shooting from the field, 38.1% from three and 81.2% from the foul line this season.
I’m not one to read too much into one result, but man, BYU looked really good against Arizona State. It’ll be interesting to see how they turn around and take on NC State, but all signs for me point to BYU getting the job done. I just see the Cougars have far too much scoring depth for NC State to contend with, and the Wolfpack still were given a scare by a game Vandy team. All in all, I’m rolling with BYU to win the Vegas Showdown, covering the number in the process.
