Tulsa Golden Hurricane
The Hurricane managed a nice four-game win streak out of the gate this year, taking out Central Arkansas, Incarnate Word, Jackson State and South Carolina State. Tulsa would fall in overtime to Little Rock and then lose to Oral Roberts 79-70 in the next pair of outings, though.
In their latest matchup versus Loyola, the Hurricane were able to get back into the win column. Tulsa scored 42 points in the first half and 46 more from there in an 88-77 result. Keaston Willis was the top team scorer with 15 points, five rebounds and two steals off the bench in the winning effort. Tulsa is 5-2 in the American Conference and has the same number of wins as North Texas, Charlotte, and Temple.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Over on the Oklahoma State side, they’ve struggled so far this year. The Cowboys went 3-4 over their first seven outings with wins over Sam Houston, New Orleans and Houston Christian mixed with losses to Abilene Christian, St. Bonaventure, Notre Dame and Creighton. In the loss to the Bluejays, the Cowboys gave up 52.7 percent shooting from the field.
Oklahoma State took another loss in their last matchup versus Southern Illinois. This one was close, though. The Cowboys were outscored 36-34 in the second half during a tough 70-68 finish. Leading team scorer Javon Small put up 25 points with four assists, and Quion Williams doubled up with 10 points and 10 boards.
ANDREW’S FREE TULSA VS OKLAHOMA STATE PREDICTION
I’ll try Oklahoma State here. Probably not touching it, though. The Cowboys have had some tough losses this year, but for the most part they’ve been competitive. OK State shot a tepid 39.4 percent from the field in the loss to Southern Illinois, however the Cowboys controlled the boards 43-24 (20-6 offensive) in a game they probably should have won. Four of Oklahoma State’s five losses have come by five points or fewer.
As for Tulsa, they’ve hit 70 or more points in every game so far this year and should score pretty well on Sunday. Oklahoma State is going to need to find some offense (or keep the pace slow) but I think they can cover if all goes well.
