Memphis got off to a nice start this year with five straight wins. Those victories came over Tennessee Tech, NC Central, Saint Louis, Western Kentucky and Virginia Tech. Since then the Tigers have fallen to Iowa State and Georgia, however.
In the Georgia game, Memphis had a two-point edge at halftime but was outscored 50-45 from there in an 82-79 defeat. Landers Nolley topped the team on 17 points with four rebounds and four assists. Alex Lomax added 14 points as well.
Over on the Rebels’ side, they posted wins over New Orleans and Charleston Southern before a loss to Marquette. Since then Ole Miss is 3-1 with a loss to Boise State mixed with wins over Elon, MS Valley and Rider.
On Tuesday in the Rider matchup, Ole Miss used a 44-26 second half to bang out a 75-51 victory. Jarkel Joiner led the way on 18 points with three assists, and Nysier Brooks posted 15 rebounds with three points and a pair of assists.
The Rebels are 2-5 ATS in their last seven at home and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. The under is 4-0 in Ole Miss’ last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 8-1 ATS in their last nine road games and 18-6 ATS in their last 24 overall. Memphis is 4-0 ATS in their last four Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to try Memphis in this one. The Tigers haven’t been themselves over the last couple of games, but they’re putting up solid numbers still. Memphis shot 46 percent versus Georgia with 34 rebounds and 15 team assists but couldn’t keep up with the torrid scoring pace in the second half.
As for Ole Miss, they’re coming off a dominant game against Rider with 57 rebounds and 75 points, but the team shot a lukewarm 39.4 percent from the floor. I think if Memphis gets going early in this one they should be able to keep the Rebels at bay.
