UNC Asheville Bulldogs
UNC Asheville posted a pretty solid 14-6 run over their first 20 games of the year. The Bulldogs are a nice 6-1 over the last seven outings, beating USC Upstate, Presbyterian, Campbell, High Point, Winthrop and Presbyterian again in that time.
In the Presbyterian rematch on Saturday, the Bulldogs had it all tied up 34-34 by halftime. UNC Asheville posted a 42-38 run in the second half and won the game 76-72. Tajion Jones led the team on 21 points and eight rebounds.
Radford Highlanders
Over on the Radford side, they managed to go 11-9 over their first 20 games of the year. The Highlanders are also 6-1 in their last seven with wins over High Point, Longwood, USC Upstate, Presbyterian, Winthrop and Charleston Southern.
In the Charleston Southern matchup on Saturday, the Highlanders were up 45-33 at the break. Radford hit another 45-38 run in the second half and won it 90-71. Bryan Antoine and DaQuan Smith each scored a team-high 19 points.
ANDREW’S FREE PICK
I’ll stay with UNC Asheville here. That said, I could go either way; this should be a great matchup. Both teams are playing well lately and it seems another close outcome is in the cards. The last time these teams met back on December 29, the Bulldogs pulled off a 62-58 victory at Kimmel Arena. Radford is 4-1 in their last five home games so they should be able to put up a good fight in the rematch. UNC Asheville has scored 70 or more points in six straight games though, so I don’t think the Highlanders will be able to power out the cover.
