The Colorado State Rams and the San Diego State Aztecs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Viejas Arena. Here’s a San Diego State vs Colorado State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best San Diego State vs Colorado State pick.

Colorado State Rams Betting Preview

Colorado State jumped out to a nice 9-2 run over their first 11 games this year, losing to only Denver and Virginia Tech in that time. The Rams have since gone just 3-6 however, taking losses versus Utah State, Nevada, New Mexico, Fresno State, Boise State and Utah State alongside wins over Grand Canyon, UNLV and Air Force. That gives the Rams a 12-8 record in the books through the first 20 games so far.

In the Utah State matchup on Friday, the Rams entered the second half with a 35-25 advantage. Colorado State was outscored 40-26 the rest of the way however, ultimately leading to a 65-61 loss at home in the end. The Rams were led by Kyle Jorgensen with 24 points, five boards and two assists in the losing effort, while Josh Pascarelli added 13 points and five rebounds.

San Diego State Aztecs Betting Preview

Over on the San Diego State side, they notched a 6-4 run over their first 10 games this year. The losses in that time were versus Troy, Michigan, Baylor and Arizona. The Aztecs have lost to only Grand Canyon since then, otherwise beating Whittier, San Jose State, Boise State, Nevada, Fresno State, Wyoming, New Mexico and UNLV in that stretch. Over 19 games this year the Aztecs have a 14-5 record.

In the weekend matchup versus UNLV, the Aztecs went into the locker room with a 39-34 advantage. San Diego State kept it up in the second half, posting a 43-37 run on the way to an 82-71 win in the end. Tops in scoring was Miles Byrd with 23 points and five assists in the road victory. Both Reese Waters (seven rebounds) and Taj DeGourville (three assists) added 13 points apiece.

Why the San Diego State Aztecs will win

  • San Diego State has won each of its last 10 games against Conference opponents at Viejas Arena.
  • Colorado State has lost seven of its last eight games at Viejas Arena.
  • San Diego State has won the first half in each of its last nine games against Conference opponents at Viejas Arena.

Why the Colorado State Rams will win

  • Colorado State has won the first half in three of its last four games against San Diego State.

San Diego State vs Colorado State Prediction

I’ll lean toward San Diego State but you could probably argue this one either way. The Aztecs didn’t have a ton of issues in a road win over UNLV last weekend, notching an excellent 56.5 percent shooting from the field and 61.5 percent (8-of-15) from outside. San Diego State added a nice 84.6 percent (22-of-26) from the line but did cough up 13 turnovers and gave up 51 percent shooting on defense. The Aztecs are looking good these days on an 8-1 run over the last nine outings. They’ve scored a nice 69 or more points in all of those games, and 71 or more in each of the wins.

As for Colorado State, they ran out of gas in the second half of their latest loss to a good Utah State squad. The Rams shot well though, with 51.2 percent from the field and 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from outside. The 19 turnovers and 40-22 deficit on points in the paint really ended up hurting, though. Colorado State is just 3-6 in their last nine and 1-3 in their last four. The Rams have fewer than 70 points in two of those three losses as well.
