The Gonzaga Bulldogs and the San Diego Toreros meet Saturday in college basketball action from Jenny Craig Pavilion. Gonzaga is fresh off a Thursday matchup versus Pepperdine. In that one the Bulldogs moved to 12-5 with a blowout win. As for San Diego, they’ve lost four straight at 10-9 following a defeat by Pepperdine last weekend. Gonzaga Bulldogs

The Bulldogs hit a 7-1 run to open the season, taking a loss to only Purdue in that time. The next eight games were a 4-4 run with losses to Washington, UConn, San Diego State and Santa Clara alongside wins over MS Valley State, Jackson State, Pepperdine and San Diego.

In their Thursday rematch with Pepperdine, the Bulldogs were tied up 40-40 going into the second half. Gonzaga came alive from there on a 46-21 run and took the blowout win 86-61. Graham Ike led the way on 24 points with seven rebounds and three assists in the victory.

San Diego Toreros

Over on the Toreros’ side, they hit a 10-5 stretch over their first 15 games this year. The losses in that time came versus UC San Diego, Hawaii, Stanford, Utah State and Fresno State. Since then it’s been losses to Saint Mary’s, Gonzaga, San Francisco and Pepperdine (with a postponed game Thursday versus Portland).

Last Saturday in the Pepperdine game, the Toreros took a 48-35 edge into the second half. San Diego was outscored 48-29 from there however, and took the tough loss 83-77 in the end. Kevin Patton led the team on 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the losing effort.

ANDREW’S FREE GONZAGA VS SAN DIEGO PREDICTION

I’ll probably stay with the Bulldogs here. Gonzaga started a little slow in their last outing versus Pepperdine, but eventually shot 56.3 percent from the field with a 42-26 rebounding advantage. The Bulldogs have managed 74 or more points in six straight games, but they’re still giving up some decent points totals to good offenses.

As for San Diego, they’re at least well-rested following a week of inactivity. It’s given the team a bit of time to reflect on the rough loss to Pepperdine, though. The good news is that the Toreros have hit 70 or more points in three of the last four games; the bad news is that they’ve given up 81 or more points in all four of those.
