The Oregon State Beavers and the San Francisco Dons meet Thursday in college basketball action from War Memorial Gym. Here’s a San Francisco vs Oregon State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best San Francisco vs Oregon State pick.

Oregon State Beavers Betting Preview

It’s been a choppy season for the Beavers so far as they’ve been flirting with the .500 mark nearly the whole time. Oregon State was 10-10 in mid-January by the time they’d finished 20 games. Since then it’s been a 3-3 stretch with wins over Loyola Marymount, San Diego and Washington State alongside losses to Pacific, Saint Mary’s and Gonzaga. In 26 games that gives the Beavers a 13-13 record.

In the Gonzaga matchup last weekend, the Beavers entered the second half with a modest deficit 38-34. Oregon State was outpaced the rest of the way 43-27 however, eventually leading to an 81-61 loss in the end. Isaiah Sy put up 13 points with two rebounds and Dez White added 12 points with six assists. Yaak Yaak added 11 points with two rebounds in 17 minutes of action.

San Francisco Dons Betting Preview

Over on the Dons’ side, they logged a spotty 6-5 record over their first 11 games this year. San Francisco bagged wins in five of the next six games though (losing to Oregon State). After that came a 3-4 stretch with losses to Loyola Marymount, Saint Mary’s, Gonzaga and Santa Clara in the span of seven outings. After a couple more losses the Dons are sitting at 14-12 overall this year.

In the Saint Mary’s game back on Saturday the Dons were sitting at a 40-29 deficit in the locker room. San Francisco was outscored 39-25 the rest of the way and ended up falling 79-54 in blowout fashion on the road. Wang Junjie had a team-high 14 points with three rebounds while David Fuchs added 11 points with 10 rebounds and two assists. Mookie Cook had 10 points with five rebounds as well.

Why the San Francisco Dons will win

  • San Francisco has won each of its last nine Thursday games at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center.
  • Oregon State has lost 16 of its last 17 Thursday road games.
  • The home team has won the first half in five of San Francisco’s last six games.

Why the Oregon State Beavers will win

  • San Francisco has lost five of its last six night games.
  • Oregon State has won four of its last five night games.
  • The road team has won the first half in each of Oregon State’s last four games.

San Francisco vs Oregon State Prediction

I’ll lean toward Oregon State. The Beavers couldn’t keep pace in the second half in a home matchup versus an excellent Gonzaga team last weekend, eventually shooting 44.2 percent from the field with a 28-15 rebounding deficit. They also had an ugly 5-10 disadvantage on points in the paint. Oregon State gave up 57.1 percent shooting on the other side as well. Still, the Beavers are 3-1 in their last four games, with 72 or more points in all three of those victories.

These teams last saw each other back on December 30 in a 70-62 home win for the Beavers. In that one, Oregon State shot 50 percent from the field while giving up just 39.6 percent on defense. The Beavers had a nice day at the line (13-of-14 for 92.9 percent) but also got outscored 24-18 in the paint. Another good shooting day should have Oregon State in position for the road rematch.
