The UNLV Runnin’ Rebels and the San Jose State Spartans meet Friday in college basketball action from Event Center Arena.

UNLV enters this one at 8-11 so far. The Rebels have lost consecutive games to Boise State in their last pair. As for San Jose State, they’re 5-13 this year. The Spartans are coming off consecutive losses to San Diego State. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

UNLV began the year on a 1-6 skid but then notched five straight wins over St. Katherine, New Mexico, Benedict and Utah State. Since then it’s been a 2-5 run for the Rebels with two wins over Air Force and losses to Utah State, Nevada and Boise State.

In the 61-59 loss to Boise State on Saturday, UNLV’s David Jenkins led the team on 19 points with two rebounds and two assists. Bryce Hamilton added 13 points with seven boards, and Caleb Grill notched 11 points with two assists and one rebound.

Over on the San Jose State side, their year started out on a 2-6 skid with wins over Fresno Pacific and Benedictine AZ. After five more losses, the Spartans notched wins over New Mexico and Air Force before losing twice to San Diego State.

In last week’s 77-55 loss to the Aztecs, San Jose State’s Trey Smith put up 22 points with eight rebounds and Sebastian Mendoza posted 14 points with seven boards and one assist. Omari Moore chipped in six points, five rebounds and four assists as well.

The Spartans are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 4-1 ATS in the last five as an underdog. The under is 4-0 in San Jose State’s last four overall and 4-0 in their last four home games.

Meanwhile, the Rebels are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 road games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven overall. UNLV is 1-5 ATS in their last six as a favorite and the over is 5-2 in their last seven versus a team with a losing straight-up record.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on San Jose State here. The Spartans had a couple of bad games in their last two outings versus a good San Diego State team and didn’t score all that well. San Jose State had 75 or more points in two of the three games before that, so they can score well when the matchup is right. The Spartans should have plenty of opportunities for points against UNLV and I think they can keep the pace in this one.
