Jacksonville State went just 2-4 over their first six games this year, winning over Shorter and Elon in that time. The Gamecocks are 4-1 in the five games since, beating North Dakota State, East Tennessee State, Reinhardt and Little Rock.
In the matchup with Little Rock back on Saturday, the Gamecocks were up 30-23 by halftime. Jacksonville State posted a 42-39 edge in the second for a 72-62 win. Skyelar Potter led the way on 24 points with six rebounds.
Over on the South Alabama side, they were 2-3 over their first five games this year, beating only Mobile and Evansville. The Jaguars hit another 2-3 run over their next five, beating Robert Morris and Alabama A&M.
In the Monday matchup versus Spring Hill College, South Alabama drilled the Badgers 48-19 in the first half. The Jaguars cruised from there in an 82-53 win. Greg Parham led the team on 18 points, and Kevin Samuel doubled on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
PICK: I might take a stab on Jacksonville State here. The Gamecocks are looking pretty good over their last five games during this 4-1 run, posting 72 or more points in three of those outings. The Gamecocks have been spotty on the scoreboard here and there this season, but considering South Alabama had given up 70 or more points in four straight games heading into their Monday matchup, I don’t think Jacksonville State will have too many issues putting up a decent total.
