South Alabama vs Troy 1/27/22 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Troy Trojans and the South Alabama Jaguars meet Thursday in college basketball action from Mitchell Center. Troy is 13-6 overall this year. The Trojans lost to Louisiana in their last game. Troy started out the year on a sketchy 5-4 run, then hit a win streak over Tennessee Tech, Alabama A&M, Arkansas Baptist, Mercer and Texas State. It’s ben a 2-3 run for the Trojans since then with losses to UT Arlington and Louisiana. 

In Saturday’s matchup versus the Cajuns, Troy was outscored 30-28 in the first half and 39-31 from there in a 69-59 loss. Tops in scoring was Efe Odigie with 14 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Khalyl Waters added 11 points as well. 

Over on the South Alabama side, they hit a nice 9-2 run to start the year. The Jaguars then hit a 1-3 stretch with a lone win over SIU Edwardsville. Since then it’s been wins over Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Louisiana and UL Monroe. 

In the matchup versus UL Monroe on Saturday, the Jaguars trailed by two points at the break. South Alabama posted a 35-21 run from there in a 68-56 win. Leading the way was Jay Jay Chandler on 21 points, one rebound and two assists. 

The Jaguars are 5-2 ATS in their last seven at home and the over is 9-1 in their last 10 at home. The over is 7-3 in South Alabama’s last 10 Thursday games. 

Meanwhile, the Trojans are 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall and 5-0 ATS in their last five Thursday games. Troy is 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss. 

PICK: I’m going to try South Alabama here. This should be a pretty interesting matchup, though. The Jaguars are on a nice run over this four-game win streak. They’ve hit 68 or more points in each game. As for Troy, they’ve been below 70 points in three of their last four but can score well when the matchup is right. This will be the first installment of a home-and-home pair for these teams. I like South Alabama to strike first.
