The VCU Rams and the South Florida Bulls meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Imperial Arena. Here’s a South Florida vs VCU prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best South Florida vs VCU pick.

VCU Rams Betting Preview

This year the Rams have five games in the bag, and they’ve been alternating wins with losses during that stretch. VCU has still managed to keep their heads above the .500 mark, though. The Rams opened with a blowout win over Wagner, then took a three-point loss to Utah State. In game three it was another win over Saint Peter’s, then came a six-point road loss to NC State. In their most recent outing VCU logged another win, this time versus Coppin State. That gives the Rams a 3-2 record across their first five outings of the season so far.

Back on Saturday versus Coppin State, VCU came out of the first half with a 54-28 edge. The Rams hit a 47-30 run the rest of the way and cruised to the blowout win 101-58. Brandon Jennings (four rebounds), Keyshawn Mitchell (three rebounds) and Jordan Tillery (two rebounds) each had a team-high 11 points in the winning effort for the Rams.

South Florida Bulls Betting Preview

Over on the Bulls’ side, they’ve also managed to keep their record above the .500 mark so far. South Florida blew out Florida A&M in their first matchup of the season, then took a four-point loss to George Washington in game two. The Bulls would win their next two games, taking out Coppin State and Kennesaw State. Game five was another loss however, this time on the road versus Oklahoma State. So far the Bulls have carved out a 3-2 record in total through five games.

Matched up against Oklahoma State last Wednesday, the Bulls held a one-point lead 45-44 by the break. South Florida was outscored 59-50 the rest of the way however, resulting in a 103-95 loss in the end. Topping the scorers was CJ Brown on a double-double with 24 points, 10 assists and three boards. Joseph Pinion chipped in 20 points, and Wes Enis added 20 points with five rebonds in 36 minutes of work for the Bulls during the losing effort last week.

South Florida vs VCU Prediction

I’ll lean toward South Florida. This should be a pretty good matchup if both teams play to their capabilities, though. The Bulls were able to hang around with Oklahoma State initially in their last outing, but lost some steam as the game wore on. USF was outscored 44-30 in the paint and gave up 59.4 percent shooting from the field. The Cowboys’ 18 turnovers didn’t hurt, but South Florida committed 15 of their own. Shooting-wise (46.9 percent) and rebounding-wise (31-31) the Bulls were pretty competitive overall. They’ve been scoring great so far this year, with a whopping 95 or more points in each outing. USF has given up 89 or more points in three of the last four games, though.

As for VCU, they demolished a struggling Coppin State team in their last game thanks to 55.7 percent from the field, a 36-25 edge on the boards, a 50-28 advantage in the paint and just eight turnovers. The Rams held the Eagles to just 37.1 percent shooting on the other side and got 13 steals off 16 Coppin State turnovers. VCU is scoring quite well themselves this year, so this game has all the makings of a high-scoring, competitive shootout.
