The IUPUI Jaguars and the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles meet Monday in college basketball action from Allen County War Memorial Coliseum. IUPUI is 2-9 overall this year. The Jaguars lost to Eastern Illinois on Saturday. As for Southern Indiana, they’re 6-5 and fresh off a win over SMWC. IUPUI has just two wins over Franklin and Spalding so far this year. The Jaguars have otherwise lost to Iowa State, Drake, Chicago State, Denver, New Orleans, the Citadel, Milwaukee, Green Bay and Eastern Illinois.
In the Eastern Illinois game back on Saturday, the Jaguars held a 28-26 edge by the break. IUPUI was outscored 44-31 in the second half and lost 70-59. Vincent Brady led the team on 16 points with five rebounds.
Over on the Southern Indiana side, they’ve taken losses to Missouri, Notre Dame, St. Bonaventure, Western Illinois and Chicago State. The wins have come versus Southern IL, Loras, Bowling Green, Anderson IN, Indiana State and SMWC.
In the SMWC matchup on Thursday, the Eagles jumped out to a 38-14 edge by halftime. Southern Indiana scored 46 more points from there in an 84-42 win. Jelani Simmons topped the team on 18 points.
PICK: I’ll probably stick with Southern Indiana. The line’s a little on the thick side however, so I could probably go either way. The Eagles have some pretty good wins on their card so far this year and they’ve taken three straight victories with 78 or more points in each outing. Southern Indiana has scored pretty well in comparable matchups, with 69 or more points in nine of their 11 outings. As for IUPUI, they’ve failed to crack 61 points in four of their last five outings. I like the Jaguars to keep the pace for a while before the Eagles power out the cover.
