Oregon State Beavers
The Beavers posted a pretty sketchy run to start the season, going just 11-9 over their first 20 games. Oregon State would record losses in the next six games as well, falling to UCLA, USC, Washington State, Washington, Arizona State and Oregon in succession during that time.
In the California game on Thursday, the Beavers were up 43-34 going into the second half. Oregon State fell apart from there however, getting outscored 47-30 in an 81-73 defeat. Jordan Pope was the team’s leading scorer with his 23 points, three rebounds and four assists.
Stanford Cardinal
Over on the Stanford side, they managed a 9-7 run to start out the year. The Cardinal would win just three of the next nine games though, falling to Washington State, California, Arizona, UCLA, Washington and Washington State (with wins over Washington, Arizona State and USC) along the way).
Matched up against Oregon on Thursday, the Cardinal fell behind 40-32 by halftime. Stanford didn’t get any closer from there on a 38-33 second half and lost 78-65 in the end. Leading the team in the losing effort was Brandon Angel with 21 points and six rebounds in 33 minutes.
ANDREW’S FREE OREGON STATE VS STANFORD PREDICTION
I’ll stay with Oregon State, but you could make a case either way. Both teams are struggling right now, but this should be a decent matchup. The Beavers had a rough second half in their last outing versus California but didn’t play too badly overall (despite the 16-for-33 allowed from outside). It was at least a nice offensive effort after six straight games with fewer than 64 points.
The Beavers lost in overtime 88-84 at home the last time these teams saw each other back on January 11. Both teams shot well (over 50.7 percent) in a sloppy overall matchup (31 total turnovers) that was pretty close the whole way. Oregon State needs to get their offense going in the rematch, but I think they’ve got a decent shot at covering.
