The Kansas Jayhawks and the Tennessee Volunteers meet in college basketball action from the Imperial Arena on Friday night.
The Kansas Jayhawks will look to build on their 69-68 win over Wisconsin last time out. Jalen Wilson leads the Jayhawks in scoring and rebounding with 24.5 PPG and 9.3 RPG while Gradey Dick has 16.8 PPG and 3.8 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for Kansas up to this point in the season. Dajuan Harris Jr. also has 9 PPG with a team-high 6.3 APG to lead Kansas in the assist department up to this point in the year. As a team, Kansas is averaging 78.5 points per game on 46.6% shooting from the field, 34.9% from behind the three point line and 62.2% from the foul line this season.
The Tennessee Volunteers will try to add to their 73-66 OT win over USC in their last game. Josiah-Jordan James leads the Vols in scoring and rebounding with 13.7 PPG and 6 RPG while Tyreke Key has 11.8 PPG with 3.8 RPG. Santiago Vescovi has 10.3 PPG with 5 RPG and 3.5 APG and Zakai Zeigler has 10 PPG with a team-high 3.8 APG to cap off the group of double-digit scorers for Tennessee while leading the Vols in the assist department this season. As a team, Tennessee is averaging 73.2 points per game on 39.3% shooting from the field, 29.9% from behind the arc and 76.4% from the foul line this season.
I get the case to be made for Kansas here as the Jayhawks are stacked, but they’re having serious cover issues and have let much less hang around more often than not and the lone time they covered a game this season was in a pick ‘em spot against Duke. Tennessee is still a solid group with experience and a great coach, and I think the Vols are more than capable of getting themselves a cover here. Give me the Vols.
