The Texas A&M Aggies and the Tennessee Volunteers meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville. Here’s a Tennessee vs Texas A&M prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Tennessee vs Texas A&M pick.
Texas A&M Aggies Betting Preview
Texas A&M limped to a 2-2 record over their first four games this year. Things have been much better since then, as the Aggies have just one loss (to SMU) in the following games. Otherwise it’s been wins over Montana, Manhattan, MS Valley State, Florida State, Pitt, Jacksonville, East Texas A&M, Prairie View, LSU, Auburn and Oklahoma. That gives Texas A&M a 13-3 record over their first 16 games of the season so far.
In the Oklahoma game over the weekend, the Aggies entered the second half sporting a relatively slim 48-45 lead. Texas A&M managed to hang on for a 35-31 run the rest of the way and took the home victory in the end 83-76. Rashaun Agee led the team on 16 points with 12 rebounds and four assists, while Ruben Dominguez and Rylan Griffen each added 14 points. Richard Isaacs chipped in 13 points with three assists and two rebounds as well.
Tennessee Volunteers Betting Preview
Over on the Tennessee side, they opened up the season on a nice run, winning each of their first seven games on the schedule. The Vols would hit the skids on a three-game losing streak versus Kansas, Syracuse and Illinois, then beat Louisville, Gardner-Webb and South Carolina State from there. After a 1-2 run with losses to Arkansas and Florida (with a win over Texas), the Volunteers have an 11-5 record in the books over their first 16 games so far.
Matched up against Florida on Saturday the Volunteers entered the locker room trailing on a rough 41-28 score. Tennessee didn’t get any closer than that on a 50-39 run the rest of the way and ended up falling on the road 91-67. Nate Ament was the leading scorer on the team with 17 points and four rebounds while Ja’Kobi Gillespie added 12 points with three assists and four rebounds. Jalen Carey put up 12 points with three rebounds in the loss as well.
Why the Tennessee Volunteers will win

Why the Texas A&M Aggies will win
- Texas A&M has won each of its last seven night games.
- Tennessee has lost four of its last five January games as an AP-ranked team.
- Texas A&M has won the first half in six of its last seven night games.
Tennessee vs Texas A&M Prediction
I’ll lean toward Texas A&M but you could make a case either way. The Aggies looked pretty good at home versus the Sooners over the weekend, hitting 41.9 percent from the field and a nice 84 percent (21-of-25) from the line. Texas A&M was beaten on the boards pretty badly 40-28 but also had just eight turnovers to Oklahoma’s 15 miscues. That gives the Aggies six straight wins now, and they’ve scored 75 or more points in each of those.
As for Tennessee, they could really use a good performance here after a rough road loss to Florida on Saturday. In that one the Vols were out-rebounded 37-29 and coughed up 18 turnovers while going a tepid 19-of-29 (65.5 percent) from the line. Tennessee has now lost five of their last nine games, but to be fair they’ve been playing some pretty tough competition during that stretch.
