TCU Horned Frogs

TCU got through their first 24 games on a 17-7 stretch. The Horned Frogs finished out the regular season with a 3-4 run, taking losses to Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas and Oklahoma. The wins came over Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Texas.

In the Thursday tournament matchup versus Kansas State, TCU was up 37-32 in the locker room. The Frogs hit a 43-35 stretch in the second for an 80-67 win. Both Charles O’Bannon and Mike Miles scored 22 points each to lead the team.

Texas Longhorns

Over on the Texas side, they were sitting at 19-5 in early February after 24 games. Texas logged a 4-3 run the rest of the way with wins over West Virginia, Oklahoma, Iowa State and Kansas. The three losses were to Texas Tech, Baylor and TCU otherwise.

In the Big 12 Tournament game on Thursday, the Longhorns jumped out to a 35-26 halftime lead. Texas got even better from there with a 25-21 run and won it 60-47. Tops in scoring was Jabari Rice with 15 points, and Dylan Disu added 11 points with 11 rebounds.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably try TCU here. The Horned Frogs posted a rough loss 74-60 to Oklahoma back on Saturday, but they were able to recover nicely with an upset win over Kansas State in the tournament game. TCU has scored 75 or more points in three of their last four games, which is an encouraging sign. As for Texas, they played a pretty resilient ballgame against Oklahoma State on Thursday despite a tepid 37.3 percent shooting, a 50-34 rebounding deficit (20-7 offensive) and 13 turnovers. The Longhorns are just 2-2 in the last four games, but they’ve played some top-shelf talent during that time. These teams have seen each other twice this year, with the home team getting a win each time. Texas took it 79-75 back on January 11, then the Frogs got one 75-73 in the March 1 game.  This one should be close as well. It’ll be a fun watch.
