The Butler Bulldogs and the UConn Huskies meet Tuesday in college basketball action from XL Center in Hartford. Here’s a UConn vs Butler prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best UConn vs Butler pick.

Butler Bulldogs Betting Preview

Butler beat Southern Indiana, IUPUI and Chicago State in their first three outings this year then took a loss to SMU. The Bulldogs would win the next four over South Carolina, Virginia, Wright State and Eastern Michigan. After another loss versus Boise State early this month, the Bulldogs have since beaten Providence in double overtime. Over 10 games that gives Butler an 8-2 overall run so far.

In the Providence game on Saturday, the Bulldogs scored 48 points in the second half to force an extra period, then fought through two overtimes on the way to a tight 113-110 win. Butler’s Michael Ajayi had 28 points with 15 rebounds and Finley Bizjack added 26 points in 44 minutes. Evan Haywood chipped in 18 points with four assists and two rebounds in the winning effort for Butler as well.

UConn Huskies Betting Preview

Over on the UConn side, they hit a 4-0 run out of the gate this year. The Huskies took out New Haven, UMass Lowell, Columbia and BYU in that quartet ahead of a loss to Arizona. UConn has since won six straight though. The wins in that time were versus Bryant, Illinois, Kansas, East Texas A&M, Florida and Texas in succession. That gives UConn a nice 10-1 overall record across their first 11 outings this year.

In the Texas game back on Friday, the Huskies entered the second half with a 43-34 lead. UConn was outscored 29-28 the rest of the way but held on for the win 71-63 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Alex Karaban with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists. Tarris Reed added 12 points with six rebounds and five assists in the victory effort for the Huskies.

Why the Connecticut Huskies will win

  • Connecticut has won each of its last 22 games at PeoplesBank Arena.
  • Butler has lost each of its last 11 games against Top 10 AP-ranked opponents.
  • Connecticut has won the first half in each of its last seven games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Why the Butler Bulldogs will win

  • Butler has won five of its last six games.
  • Connecticut has lost the first half in six of its last seven night games against Conference opponents.

UConn vs Butler Prediction

I’ll stick with UConn I suppose, but you could call this one either way. The Huskies played pretty well against Texas at XL Center in their last outing, hitting 54.7 percent from the field with 23 team assists and 37.7 percent shooting allowed on defense. UConn did spit out 12 turnovers though, and shot just 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the line so it wasn’t perfect. Still, that gives the Huskies six straight wins with 72 or more points in five of those (the outlier being a 61-56 win at Kansas). UConn is playing quite well these days; they’ll be in good shape here if they can keep the offensive run going.

As for Butler, they get credit for putting away a pesky Friars team in their last outing. The Bulldogs shot 46.9 percent from the floor in that one with 43 rebounds, 23 assists and 56 points in the paint alongside just seven turnovers. Butler has at least 79 points in every one of their wins this year, so we should have a pretty high total if both teams are on point Tuesday.
