The Eastern Washington Eagles and Utah Utes meet Monday in college basketball action at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Let’s preview this game and give out a pick and prediction.
Eastern Washington Eagles Betting Preview
The Eastern Washington Eagles won 23 games last year, their second most in school history. Eastern Washington has won 20-plus games now six times. Ethan Price returns after averaging 9.6 points and 4.2 rebounds, while Casey Jones averaged 7.6 points and 1.7 assists. Dane Erikstrup played in 476 minutes last season, and Cedric Coward averaged 5.6 rebounds. The Eastern Washington Eagles are going to look different considering they lost all 3 of their double-digit scorers from last season. The good news is Eastern Washington returns much of its core outside of those guys, and there are eight upperclassmen on this roster. Eastern Washington has had 4 straight winning seasons, so a bit of a culture is developing out west.
Utah Utes Betting Preview
The Utah Utes won 17 games last year, their first winning season since 2019-20. Utah enters its third season under coach Craig Smith. Branden Carlson returns after averaging 16.4 points and 7.5 rebounds, while Gabe Madsen averaged 11.6 points and 1.7 assists. Ben Carlson played in 611 minutes last season, and Rollie Worster averaged 5.2 rebounds. The Utah Utes return their top-2 scorers from last season and their top assist guy in Worster. Utah also landed 3 transfers in Cole Bajema from Washington, Lawson Lovering from Colorado and Deivon Smith from Georgia Tech. It’s been a while since Utah has made some serious noise in the PAC-12, but this could be a year that changes. Utah hasn’t won 20-plus games since the 2017-18 season.
The Utah Utes return a great deal of production and could have a nice season, but Eastern Washington was good last year and there are a lot of players back for another season. The Eastern Washington Eagles are becoming a respectable program over the years, and this is an experienced roster that won’t be scared of the bright lights. Lot of points here. I’ll take a stab with Eastern Washington.
