The Santa Clara Broncos and the Washington State Cougars meet Saturday in college basketball action from Footprint Center. Santa Clara Broncos 

The Broncos started out the season great with a six-game win streak. Those victories came over Utah Tech, St. Francis PA, Stanford, SE Louisiana, MS Valley State and Oregon. Santa Clara would lose three of the next four games versus Ohio State, California and New Mexico, however. 

Back on Wednesday versus Utah State, the Broncos dropped another one. Santa Clara hung around most of the game but fell behind late for an 84-82 defeat. Tops in scoring for the Broncos in the losing effort was Adama Bak with 18 points and four rebounds with three assists.

Washington State Cougars 

Over on the Cougars’ side, they’ve got just the one blemish versus Mississippi State 76-64 on the card so far. Otherwise, Washington State took out Idaho, Prairie View A&M, Rhode Island, Utah Tech, Eastern Washington, Portland State and UC Riverside in their fist eight outings. The Cougars held the Highlanders to just 27.5 percent shooting in the 86-49 blowout. 

Washington State kept it going with another victory over Grambling in their last matchup. The Cougars jumped out to a 42-30 advantage by the break and eventually finished off an 83-65 win. Leading scorer Jaylen Wells came off the bench to post 17 points with four rebounds and two assists. 

ANDREW’S FREE SANTA CLARA VS WASHINGTON STATE PREDICTION 

I’ll just stay with Washington State. The Cougars are coming off a pretty routine win over Grambling, shooting 56.4 percent from the field and 50 percent (9-of-18) from 3-point range alongside a 33-21 rebounding advantage. Washington State has been putting up some nice points totals this year, with 71 or more points in eight of their nine outings. 

As for Santa Clara, they’re coming off a gritty loss to a good Utah State team. The Broncos have given up 84 or more points in each of their last four losses however, and it seems Washington State will score well on Saturday also. I don’t see Santa Clara keeping up.
