The Alabama Crimson Tide take on the LSU Tigers Saturday in week 10 SEC college football action from Bryant-Denny. LSU had a bye this past weekend. The Tigers’ last on-field appearance was a 14-point loss to Mississippi. As for Alabama, they were inactive last weekend as well. The Tide took out Tennessee by 28 points in their last outing. LSU lost to UCLA in their opener this year, but then took out McNeese State, Central Michigan and Mississippi State in the next trio. After losses to Auburn and Kentucky, the Tigers beat Florida before falling 31-17 to Ole Miss on October 23.
In the loss to the Rebels, LSU gave up 31 unanswered points over the middle two quarters. QB Max Johnson finished on 146 yards and a pick, while Tyrion Davis-Price led the run with 53 yards and a score. Jaray Jenkins caught four balls for 52 yards as well.
Over on the Alabama side, they began the year on a five-game win streak over Miami-FL, Mercer, Florida, Southern Miss and Ole Miss. After a three-point loss to Texas A&M, the Tide came back with wins over Mississippi State and Tennessee.
In the 52-24 win over Tennessee on October 23, Alabama posted 28 fourth-quarter points to ice the game. QB Bryce Young finished with 371 yards and two scores. Brian Robinson had 107 yards and three rush TDs, and Jameson Williams racked up 123 yards on six catches to lead the receivers. (John Metchie also had 11 grabs for 121 and two scores.)
The Tigers are 5-0 ATS in their last five after a bye week and 11-3 ATS in their last 14 after an ATS loss. LSU is 5-2 ATS in their last seven in November as well.
Meanwhile, the Tide are 11-2 ATS in their last 13 at home and 4-1 ATS in the last five overall. Alabama is 10-3 ATS in their last 13 conference games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Alabama, even with the thick line here. The Tide were a little slow to develop in the Tennessee game, but once the fourth quarter got going the team was fine. Alabama would finish with 574 yards (203 rushing), 6.2 yards per play, 33 first downs and a nice 15-of-20 rate on third downs.
As for LSU, they looked great against Florida but their offense has stalled amid this run of difficult games. The Tigers have scored 21 points or fewer in three of their last four, and they notched just 77 rush yards, three turnovers and 4.8 yards per play in the Ole Miss game. I like LSU to hang around for a while here, but it should be Alabama’s cover.
