The Eagles’ season opened up with a blowout loss to Fresno State, then another versus USC. Georgia Southern would rebound from there and even up their record back to the .500 mark with a couple of wins over Jacksonville State and Maine. The Eagles lost two more after that however, falling to James Madison and Southern Miss. In their October 18 matchup versus Georgia State, Georgia Southern posted a 21-0 run in the fourth quarter on the way to a 41-24 victory. Georgia Southern’s most recent appearance came back on October 25 versus Arkansas State. The Eagles were up 21-17 by the half but then got outscored 17-3 the rest of the way during a 34-24 loss. QB JC French finished with an 18-of-24 line for 208 yards and a couple of scores. OJ Arnold was the top rusher on 14 carries and 73 yards, while French also accounted for a score on the ground. Leading receiver Camden Brown had five catches for 44 yards and a touchdown along the way to the loss.

Over on the App State side, they kicked off their 2025 campaign with a pair of wins, taking out Charlotte and Lindenwood in that time. The Mountaineers would then lose the next two however, falling to Southern Miss and Boise State. App State beat Oregon State and Georgia State from there then lost 45-37 versus Coastal Carolina on October 18. The Mountaineers managed to rack up 410 yards in the loss alongside 278 pass yards, 5.4 yards per play and 27 first downs. The defense gave up 410 yards and 246 yards rushing on the other side, though.

The Mountaineers took on Old Dominion back on October 25 in their most recent appearance. It was a close game, with App State surging for a 14-0 fourth-quarter run in a near-miss 24-21 loss. QB AJ Swann finished 12-of-16 for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Leading the rush was Rushed Dubinion with nine totes for 51 yards and Davion Dozier caught four balls for 75 yards and a  score. Kanen Hamlett added six grabs for 72 yards and a TD of his own as well.

I’ll stick with App State, but you could call this one either way. The Mountaineers were in a bad spot heading into the fourth quarter of their most recent loss versus Old Dominion, but a couple of cosmetic touchdowns made the end result not so bad. App State ended up with 374 total yards in that one—301 of which came through the air. The Mountaineers added 5.2 yards and 23 first downs but went a rough 4-of-16 on third-down tries and a couple of interceptions. On defense App State gave up 459 total yards, 26 first downs and 9-of-18 on third downs. The good news is that the Mountaineers are scoring well; they’ve hit 21 or more points in four straight games.

As for Georgia Southern, they were pretty flat in their latest road loss to Arkansas State,. The Eagles finished with 336 yards, 22 first downs, nine penalties and 5-of-14 on third-down conversion attempts. Georgia Southern has 24 or more points in three straight games themselves, but they’ve also been giving up quite a bit on the other side during that stretch. We should have a big total in this one.
