The ULM Warhawks meet the Liberty Flames Saturday in Week 7 CFB action from Malone Stadium. Liberty is coming off a matchup versus Middle Tennessee. In that one the Flames got a blowout win. As for LA-Monroe, they played Georgia State in their last outing. The Warhawks fell by 34 points in an ugly game there. Liberty got off to a nice start this year with three straight wins, beating Campbell 48-7, Troy 21-13 and Old Dominion 45-17. The Flames took a tough loss to Syracuse 24-21 in game four, but bounced back against UAB with a 36-12 victory.
In game six versus Middle Tennessee, the Flames put up 24 first-half points on the way to a 41-13 win. QB Malik Willis had 222 yards with two TDs and three interceptions. Joshua Mack led the rushers on 14 carries for 91 yards and a score, and Demario Douglas had 156 receiving yards with a TD.
Over on the Warhawks’ side, they had a tough draw in their opener versus Kentucky and fell in a 45-10 blowout. LA-Monroe won their next pair against Jackson State 12-7 and Troy 29-16, but then got drilled by Coastal Carolina in a 59-6 result.
Last weekend in the Georgia State game, the Warhawks coughed up 21 second-quarter points during a 55-21 loss. Chandler Rogers threw for 208 yards with two scores on 15-of-23 passing, and also led the rush with 72 yards. Jeremiah Knight caught five balls for 78 yards as well.
The Flames are 4-0 ATS in their last four versus the Sun Belt and 8-0 ATS versus a team with a losing record. Liberty is also 10-1 ATS in their last 11 after a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Warhawks are 16-34-2 ATS in their last 52 home games and 8-20-1 ATS in their last 29 overall. LA-Monroe is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss.
PICK: I’m going to take Liberty, but probably staying away due to that thick line. The Flames posted a nice well-rounded offensive effort against the Blue Raiders, with 449 total yards and 6.2 yards per play. The three interceptions were really the only glaring statistical mistake. Outside of that, it was a good day for Liberty.
As for the Warhawks, they gave up double-digit points in three of four quarters to Georgia State, and really couldn’t stop much of anything the Panthers tried. UL-Monroe committed nine penalties, had two turnovers and went a tepid 3-of-14 on third downs. I like the Warhawks to play better here, but Liberty is probably the wiser cover play.
