The Long Island University Sharks and Ohio Bobcats meet Saturday in week 1 college football action at Peden Stadium. Let’s preview this game and give out a pick and prediction.
Long Island University Sharks Betting Preview
LIU is coming off a 4-7 season that included 2 wins on the road. Head coach Ron Cooper returns for his second season, and he has new defensive coordinators in Eric Mathies and Kap Dede. Luca Stanzani should have a chance to start at quarterback after 148 pass attempts and 13 touchdowns last year. Pat Bowen returns after leading the Sharks with 600 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns, while Michael Love and Davon Wells are a returning receiving duo that combined for 1,300 yards and 7 touchdowns. Defensively, Larry Elder returns after leading LIU with 71 tackles, Eric O’Neill had 10 sacks and Rudy Silvera had 2 interceptions. Long Island has playmakers on offense and returns the key contributors on defense. If LIU can find stability at quarterback, there’s potential for a winning season here. Obviously, this is a massive test for Long Island and a chance to set the tone early.
Ohio Bobcats Betting Preview
The Ohio Bobcats look for a win after losing their season opener to San Diego State. Ohio looks to avoid a 0-2 start for the second time in the last 3 years. CJ Harris is completing 43.9 percent of his passes for 203 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions. Sam Wiglusz and Tyler Walton have combined for 158 receiving yards on 16 catches, while Miles Cross has 4 receptions. The Ohio Bobcats ground game is averaging 102 yards per contest, and Sieh Bangura leads the way with 65 yards on 15 carries. Defensively, Ohio is allowing 20 points and 209 yards per game. Bryce Houston leads the Ohio Bobcats with 13 tackles, Justin Birchette has 1 pass deflection and Austin Brawley has 1 pass deflection.
Randy’s Pick
LIU had issues last season and now has to find a new quarterback, which doesn’t help matters. The Ohio Bobcats had the privilege of getting a game under their belt, and the defense wasn’t too shabby. At home, I’d expect Ohio to find more offensive success and take better care of the ball. I like Ohio to get its first win of the season. I’ll lay the chalk with the Bobcats.
