South Alabama vs Texas State 11/12/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The South Alabama Jaguars and Texas State Bobcats meet Saturday in week 11 college football action from Hancock Whitney Stadium. Texas State played Louisiana-Monroe in their last game. the Bobcats ended up losing a close outcome. As for South Alabama, they’re coming off a game versus Georgia Southern. Texas State went 2-2 over the first four games this year, losing to Nevada and Baylor with wins over FIU and Houston Baptist otherwise. The Bobcats went 1-3 over their next four with a win versus App State and losses to James Madison, Troy and Southern Miss. 

In the LA-Monroe game, the Bobcats were up 21-0 after the first quarter. Texas State’s lead eventually disappeared and they lost 31-30, however. QB Layne Hatcher put up 237 yards with two scores, and Lincoln Pare had 100 yards and a TD on 25 carries. 

Over on the South Alabama side, they went 5-1 over their first six games with a loss to UCLA alongside wins over Nicholls State, Central Michigan, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana and LA-Monroe. After a loss to Troy the Bobcats got another victory versus Arkansas State. 

Matched up against Georgia Southern, South Alabama gave up 21 points in the first quarter. The Jaguars calmed down from there in an eventual 38-31 win. QB Carter Bradley put up 193 yards, one TD and two picks. La’Damian Webb added 247 yards and four rush touchdowns. 

The Bobcats are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 in November and 2-5 ATS in the last seven after an ATS win. Texas State is 5-2 ATS in the last seven conference games. 

Meanwhile, the Jaguars are 5-1 ATS versus a team with a losing record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven on grass. South Alabama is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 overall. 

PICK: I’m leaning toward South Alabama in this one. The Jaguars came up with 514 total yards, 29 first downs and 8-of-15 on third downs in their win over Georgia Southern last weekend. It was a tight game however, thanks in part to South Alabama’s three turnovers and 13 penalties for 118 yards. 

As for Texas State, they weren’t exactly electric against LA-Monroe and couldn’t take advantage of the four-turnover advantage in their one-point loss. The Bobcats were fairly tepid on offense as well, and I don’t see them keeping pace here.
